Tax collection­s still increasing across county

Sales tax revenue in Forrest City and St. Francis County continued to increase as last year came to an end.

According to reports from the Arkansas Municipal League’s City and Town magazine, as well as reports from the Arkansas Department of Finance, Forrest City collected $330,233.04 in December 2020 from its city taxes. In December 2019, the city’s taxes generated revenue of $314,274.82 according to the state’s reports.

Six cities in St. Francis County collect a municipal sales taxes, and each of those cities also received higher revenue during December when compared to the revenue generated by the taxes in December 2019.

The December 2020 figures are listed with the 2019 figures in parenthesi­s: Hughes $6,187.06

($5,836.31), Madison $1,416.59 ($1,330.93), Palestine $31,503.47 ($31,479.85), Wheatley $4,079 ($3,774.97) and Widener $3,261.86 ($2,543.52).

Municipali­ties in the county received $409,112.99 in December 2020 from the county’s sales tax, which is also more than the amount the county and cities received in December 2019.

In 2019, the county taxes generated revenue for cities in the amount of $334,132.42, according to the report in City and Town.

Each city within the county receives a portion of the county taxes.

From the county tax, Forrest City received $278,695.08 in December, which is more than the amount collected the previous year, which was $259,090.42.

Other cities that collect revenue from the county tax are listed with the 2019 figures in parenthesi­s: Caldwell $10,062.84 ($9,354.96), Colt $6,853.60 ($6,371.50), Hughes $26,127.10 ($24,289.20), Madison $13,942.92 ($12,962.10), Palestine $12,347.36 ($11,478.80), Wheatley $6,436.58 ($5,983.80) and Widener $4,949.82 ($4,601.64).
