Late score gives Lonoke win over Lady Mustangs

Kaleigh Thompson hit a basket with four seconds left to power Lonoke (9-11, 5-6 4A5) to a 64-62 comeback victory over the Forrest City Lady Mustangs Monday at Lonoke.

Carly Bryant scored 18 points, Thompson finished with 16 points and Tyesha James finished with 14 points and Graison King added 10 points for Lonoke.

Forrest City's 62 points came after the team scored just 32 total points in the last two conference losses and marks the first time this season the girls have eclipsed the 60-point mark.

The Lady Mustangs will play at Little Rock Mills tonight leaving the team with one conference game, a makeup game against Pulaski Robinson that is being reschedule­d.

In the first matchup of the season against Mills played at Mustang Arena, the Lady Mustangs won 58-10.

With Monday's loss to Lonoke, the Lady Mustangs fall to 2-17 overall and 1-11 in the conference.

Shmyira Brown led the Lady Mustangs with 15 points, followed by Bre Page and Ja'Naya Brown with 8 points, Charnelle Hoof with 10 and six rebounds, Kyla Morrow 10 points and five rebounds and Mariah Brown adding five points.

In other 4A-5 conference girls games played Monday, Pulaski Academy dropped Pulaski Robinson 65-37 and Stuttgart ran past Little Rock Mills 69-22.

The loss to Pulaski Academy dropped Robinson to fifth place in the 4A-5 standings, while the Lady Mustangs are resting in seventh place and Mills eighth.

Pulaski Academy, unbeaten in the conference and 16-3 overall, will most likely be the top-seed into the upcoming conference tournament.

The Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots will host Helena West Helena in 3A-6 conference action tonight at the new Patriot Gym. The conference doublehead­er will begin at 5 p.m. with the varsity girls game.

The Lady Patriots will most likely finish fifth in the 3A-6 conference. Helena-West Helena is one slot above the Lady Patriots tied for fourth in the conference with DeWitt.

CAC remains unbeaten in the conference while Episcopal Collegiate is two games back in second place.

The P-W girls are coming off a 50-46 win Friday over Jacksonvil­le Lighthouse and after tonight's home game, have one regular season remaining, at CAC on Thursday.

At 9-13 overall, headed into the final two games, the Lady Patriots are on track to equal or finish with the best girls record for the first time since the 2014-15 season when that Lady Patriot team won 10 games.
