Robinson edges Lady Mustangs; Mustangs silent in fourth quarter.

Pulaski Robinson senior shooting guard Alex Rouse accounted for more than half of the Lady Senators scoring Tuesday night in a 45-43 win over seventh seeded Forrest City in the first round of the 4A-5 district tournament.

Rouse led all scorers with 27 points and the Lady Senators cashed in at the foul line, hitting 11 of their 12 free throw attempts.

Tuesday's loss ends the Forrest City Lady Mustangs' season while sixth-seeded Robinson moves into the quarterfin­als to face third seeded Wynne tonight at Wynne.

Forrest City got 10 points from guard Shymira Brown, including a pair of threes, while ArBrianna Page finished with eight points, Taurica Lockhart seven and Charnelle Hoof adding six.

As a team, the Lady Mustangs were perfect from the foul line hitting all eight of their free throw opportunit­ies.

Forrest City led 14--6 after the opening quarter and 23-22 at the half. Both teams were locked in a 33-tie to start the fourth frame. Robinson held on for the win, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 12 to 10 in the final frame.

The Forrest City Mustangs kept pace with Lonoke for three quarters Tuesday in a 4A-5 first round district tournament game played at Lonoke.

The sixth seeded Jackrabbit­s erupted for a 25-point fourth quarter to close out the 57-45 win over the seventh seeded Mustangs.

The loss ends the season for the Mustangs, while Lonoke moves into tonight's quarterfin­al round to face third seeded eStem in Little Rock.

The Mustangs trailed Lonoke 11-8 after the first quarter but gained ground in the second frame and took 29-22 halftime lead on the strength of a 21point second quarter.

The Mustangs held the advantage at 36-32 to begin the fourth quarter, which has, for most of the season, been their Achilles Heel in scoring.

Lonoke nailed down the first round victory outscoring the Mustangs 25 to 9 in the fourth quarter.

Kesean Washington led Forrest City with 12 points, coming on four, three pointers, while Robert Echols Jr. had 11, Melvin Shaw eight and Servio Fisher six.

Lonoke dropped in 22 of their 32 free throw attempts while the Mustangs were six of nine from the foul line.

Two fourth-quarter runs helped fifth-seeded Pocahontas eliminate fourth-seeded Valley View 58-51 Tuesday night in the 4A-3 boys’ district basketball tournament.

The top four teams from the 4A-3 district will advance to the 4A-East Regional next week to take on the top four teams from each side of the 4A-5 conference.

Bryce Mason’s three-pointer gave the Redskins the lead for good at 39-38 and started an 8-0 run. Isaiah Jackson converted a three-point play and Mason scored off a steal to give Pocahontas (12-11) a 44-38 lead with 4:01 remaining.

Valley View (13-11) pulled within 44-42, only to see Pocahontas reel off the next 10 points. Mason Baltz scored in transition and Mason drilled another 3, giving the Redskins a 49-42 lead.

Pocahontas pulled away to clinch a semifinal game Thursday at Blythevill­e and an East Region tournament berth next week.

Pocahontas led 16-11 after the first quarter. Valley View rallied to tie the game at 20 at halftime before Pocahontas took a 34-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Redskins reached Tuesday’s game by edging Westside 51-50 in a first round district tournament game Monday.
