Episcopal takes 5-1 victory over Patriots; Lady Patriots ‘run rule’ Lady Wildcats

It didn't take long for the Little Rock Episcopal Wildcats to flex their collective muscle Monday against the PalestineW­heatley Patriots in a 3A-6 conference game played at Palestine's Sports Complex.

Plating three runs in the top of the first inning, the Wildcats quickly put the Patriots in a hole and then shut the lid for good in the top of the fifth, scoring two more runs, to secure a 5-1 win over P-W..

Drew Grumbles got the pitching start and led the Wildcats to the win, holding the Patriots to just three hits and the one run over seven innings, striking out 10.

The Patriots lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jackson Wilson singled and came around to score.

P-W countered with starter

Hunter Hill, who absorbed the loss for P-W. Hill allowed five runs (four earned) on seven Wildcat hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Wilson finished up, pitching the final two innings striking out five Wildcat players.

Aviean Smith, Wilson and Ke'Von Medley accounted for the three P-W base hits, while Medley also drove in a run.

Palestine-Wheatley, 3-3 overall for the season, is scheduled to play at Hazen today.

SOFTBALL

After forcing a 1-1 tie in the first inning, the PalestineW­heatley Lady Patriots erupted for 13 runs in the second inning on their way to a three inning 161 "run rule" win over the Episcopal Lady Wildcats in a game played Monday at the Palestine Sports Complex.

The Lady Patriots plated 15 of the runs on just four hits, taking advantage of several walks and fielding errors by the Lady Wildcats.

Shelby Fowler drove in two of the runs for the Lady Patriots and scored twice while Allie Parson and Alyxa Roberts contribute­d two quality at bats each.

Hanna Hooker pitched all three innings for the win, giving up the lone Lady Wildcat run on three hits with five strikeouts. Hooker unloaded 12 first pitch strikes in the game.

Gentry Bass led the way on the base paths scoring three runs, while Kayleigh Anderson came through with a grand slam home run and Kaylee Jo Long scored one run. Parson, Anna Knowlton and Emmaleigh Spencer each scored single runs.

The Lady Patriots are scheduled to play at McCrory today.
