Burke’s big day helps Mustangs win third at Mills Relays.

Forrest City junior Jaylon Burke won four events last Thursday to help the Mustangs to a third place overall finish at the Little Rock Mills Relays held at Wilbur D. Mills track in Little Rock.

Burke won the 110 and 300meter hurdles, as well as the long jump and the triple jump.

Overall the Mustangs recorded 16 top 10 finishes at the meet, scoring 86 points to secure third place behind meet winner Little Rock Parkview and runner up Sheridan.

Da'Prince Jones ran 14th in the 100-meter dash and 12th in the 200-meter dash behind Chancellor Taylor's eighth place finish.

Deonte Lay ran fifth in the 400-meter dash, while Corbin Hester finished third in the 800 and Mustang teammate Detrius Turner running 13th.

Kylan Ray was 10th in the mile run and Justin Edwards finished fifth in the two-mile run.

Forrest City ran second in the mile relay and finished third in the 800 and two-mile relay events.

Taylor leaped to an eighth place finish in the high jump while Jacobe Shell was third in the shot put with a toss of 42 feet and Aston Joiner held on to finish eighth.

The Mustangs ran the meet without a senior on the track roster.

The Forrest City Lady Mustangs ran seventh overall in the girls side of the 17-team meet. Sylvan Hills captured the overall meet title with 196 points.

The Lady Mustangs, led by Taylor Cole and Morgan House, earned 12 top 10 finishes, but failed to record a first place in any of the events.

Cole ran fifth in the 100-meter hurdles and was eighth in the 300-meter hurdles. House was eighth in the 800-meter run and fifth in the 400-meter.

The Lady Mustangs ran fifth in the 400-meter relay and sixth in the 800-relay. JaNaya Brown finished fifth in the high jump and in the long jump while Shamya Futrell was 13th in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump.

Sophomore Aysia Peals finished second in the shot with a throw of more than 31 feet. Makayla Bean was seventh.

In the sprints, Brown ran fourth in the 100-meter while Kerrigan Smith finished 11th.

Kyla Morrow ran 13th in the 200-meter sprint.

Jonesboro swept the team titles Thursday evening in the Paul Hoffman Hurricane Relays at Cooksey-Johns Field.

The Hurricane won 11 of the 18 events in the boys’ meet to capture first place with 223.5 points. Erik Wilson won four events and placed second in another to lead Jonesboro.

Nettleton finished second with 134 points. Marion was third with 121 points, Valley View finished fourth with 110.5 and Paragould was fifth with 41 points.

Jonesboro also won 11 events in the girls’ competitio­n to take the team title with 208 points. Mary Beth Bailey won three events while Elise Harris and Takiria Brown placed first in two each to lead the Lady Hurricane.

Valley View finished second with 137.5 points, followed by Marion at 112.5, Paragould with 64, Nettleton with 57 and Greene County Tech with 37.
