WM Blue Devils score late to secure win over visiting FC Mustangs

Thursday's game against West Memphis was a heartbreak­er for Forrest City.

Playing at West Memphis, the Mustangs lost a late lead falling to the Blue Devils 18-8 in the nonconfere­nce game.

The game was tied at 5-5 with West Memphis batting in the bottom of the fourth when Roeder doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

Despite the loss, Forrest City did collect 10 hits against Blue Devil pitching, unfortunat­ely, West Memphis also had 10 hits on the way to victory.

Forrest City opened the scoring in the first inning to lead 1-0, on a steal of home by Kesean Washington before West Memphis plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

West Memphis single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings to lead 6-3, after the Mustangs scored twice in the top of the third.

Forrest City tied the game at 5-5 with two runs in the top of the fourth before West Memphis broke the tie and opened an 8-5 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kendal Akins started the big inning getting on base with a bunt single and scored on an RBI single by Jamal Collins

Forrest City plated three runs in the sixth inning paced by Collins, Fredarrion Robinson, and Jamonte Flenoy all coming through with RBIs in the inning but trailed 11-8.

West Memphis scored seven runs in the sixth inning with W Rodgers, Boyce, Roeder, and Troxler all contribute­d in the big inning with RBIs.

Rodgers got the pitching win for the Blue Devils giving up the five Mustang runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out eight. Boyce and C. Rodgers came on relief to close out the game.

Collins took the loss for Forrest City going four and two-thirds innings, allowing nine hits and 11 runs while striking out two and also drove in two runs on one hit. Starr Carlise and Jonathan Rolfe finished out the game in relief.

Damarrion Beasley led the way with three hits in three at bats scoring one run while Kendal Williams was two for three at the plate, Kendal Atkins had two hits in two at bats and scored twice. and Fredarrion Robinson finished with a pair of hits in four plate appearance­s.

Beasley was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Forrest City in hits. Atkins had four of the Mustangs 13 stolen bases in the game.

Rodgers and Monroe each managed multiple hits for West Memphis. Rodgers led West Memphis with three hits in four at bats while Monroe scored twice and had two base hits in three at bats.
