Exhibit showcases history of Junior Auxiliary
The St. Francis County Museum is hosting an exhibit on the history of the Junior Auxiliary in St. Francis County.
The exhibit will remain on display through the end of April and follows the annual celebration of National Junior Auxiliary Week, which took place earlier this month.
"Kameshia Davis was in charge of this and they just set up a little bit of history," said St. Francis County Museum Curator Judy Sweet. "It's just a little bit about JA and the history of JA in our area."
According to Sweet, the exhibit features information about the organization's various community projects, along with plaques recognizing former members and donors. Also included in the display are shirts and smocks former JA members wore while volunteering at community events.
"We have JA uniforms from when they had to wear dresses and smocks," said Sweet. “Then they started wearing T-shirts and now they wear those T-shirts for events."
Sweet also said the exhibit features several awards the group has received over the years.
"One of their tri-folds is of Angel Tree. Their awards included recognition for Campbell House and trophies from the Christmas parade," said Sweet. "I believe the Campbell House was featured in At Home and there is a picture and the article with the exhibit.”
Sweet also said the exhibit includes photos of numerous JA service projects and members who have been involved with the organization over time as well as information for visitors about the many JA projects.
The museum is open Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
