Mallard, Baker top graduates for Class of 2021 in PWSD

The Palestine-Wheatley School District has named its top graduates for the graduating Class of 2021.

The valedictor­ian is Alexis Mallard, and the salutatori­an is Elizabeth Baker.

Mallard, of Palestine, is the daughter of Jerri and Doug Swiney and Jennifer and James Mallard. She is the granddaugh­ter of Loyce Corbitt, Mack Martin, Brenda Mallard and James Mallard.

During her time at PalestineW­heatley, Mallard enjoyed playing basketball. She is also a member of the marine biology club and Delta Beta Sigma.

Mallard earned a 3.96 grade point average at PW. She has also earned 24 concurrent credit college hours and is taking nine more college hours this semester.

When not attending school, Mallard said she enjoys reading, sitting on bridges and riding around.

After graduation, Mallard plans to attend the University of Arkansas to major in psychology. “From there, I hope to get into medical school to become a psychiatri­st,” she said.

Baker, of Forrest City, is the daughter of Leigh Ann Baker and the late Shane Baker. She is the granddaugh­ter of Joyce Fellows.

While attending PWSD, Baker was a member of the drama club, quiz bowl team, student council, Spanish Club, FCCLA and FBLA.

She earned a 3.92 grade point average in high school and has earned three hours of college credit through concurrent courses.

In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, acting, embroidery and making bread.

Baker plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas to major in theater.
