Man shot by teen dies; city records fourth murder

-

The fourth murder in as many months was recorded in Forrest City this week when a man shot a few weeks ago died from his injuries.

Forrest City Police Chief Deon Lee said Deontre Tyrell Coulter, 25, died Tuesday from injuries he suffered during a shooting on April 11 at an apartment complex on Kittle Road.

The suspect, a 17-year-old girl, has not yet been charged in the case, according to Lee.

According to the police report, Coulter, 25, 862 Stonebrook Circle, Forrest City, was visiting a friend at the Meadows Apartment Complex about 11:15 p.m., on Sunday, April 11, when the shooting occurred.

Brittaney Shelton, 31, who lives at the apartment, reportedly told police that Coulter stopped there to visit and eat. Shelton told police that when Coulter entered the residence, he placed a weapon on the table. Shelton told police she had left the room when she heard Coulter telling the teenager to put the weapon down because it was loaded.

According to Shelton, she heard a “loud bang” before Coulter called out to her, asking her to call 911.

The teenager, according to the report, told Shelton to not call the police before reportedly fleeing the scene on foot.

(Continued from Page 1) Witnesses and the suspect told police that prior to the shooting, Coulter placed the barrel of the gun against the teen’s neck.

The suspect told police Coulter pulled the trigger but the gun did not discharge. He then reportedly placed it on the kitchen table before the teenager allegedly picked it up and pointed it at him. She told officers she pulled the trigger but did not expect the gun to discharge. When asked why, she reportedly told police, “Because I was scared.”

At the apartment, police recovered a 9mm handgun and shell casings.
