Mustangs’ Burke wins MOC triple jump event.

Jaylon Burke bolted to a first place finish in the Meet of Champs triple jump event Saturday at Harding University in Searcy.

Burke, a junior for the Forrest City Mustangs track team, pulled off a leap of 46 feet eight inches to win the event.

While Burke's leap was good enough for the MOC win, it was one foot, one inch shy of tying the existing individual record in the event of 47 feet nine inches, held by Bentonvill­e's Adrian Broadus. Burke's effort was one foot and nine inches short of tying the existing overall MOC mark in the event.

Hot Springs' Tyrell Lambert finished second at 46 feet three inches while Fayettevil­le's Link Lindsey was third with a mark of 44 feet four inches.

Marianna Lee's Antiwain Jones placed first in the boys high jump, clearing the bar at six feet five inches, well of the overall MOC record of seven feet one inch set in 1996.

Nettleton's Israel Malone finished second in the event.

Rogers High School won the mile relay posting a time of 3:26.23, 12 minutes off the overall MOC record of 3:14.94 set by Forrest City in 1077. Vilonia ran second while Jonesboro finished third.

Forrest City's Janaya Brown qualified for the long jump event at the MOC but did not compete. Conway's Madison Holloway won the event with a leap of more than 17 feet while Lakeside LV's Hope Johnson finished second.

Three area athletes won individual events and a relay team from an area school also finished first Saturday at the MOC.

Jonesboro's Takiria Brown won the girls' 100-meter dash in a time of 12.07 seconds and also finished third in the 200. The Lady Hurricane had a second overall state champion in Destiny Thomas, who won the shot put with a toss of 42 feet, 7 inches.

After setting the Class 5A girls' discus record earlier this month, Paragould's Olivia Hancock handily won the competitio­n in the Meet of Champions with a throw of 137-9.

The Lady Hurricane's Mary Beth Bailey finished second in the 1600 with a time of 5:17.44. Jonesboro's Elise Harris placed sixth in the 200 and seventh in the 100.

Valley View's two-mile relay team of Kendal Minton, Emma Jarrett, Elise Knight and Hadley Rose Grisham finished second in 9:58.27. Brookland's Anna Joy Allen and Rylee Walker placed sixth in the 100 hurdles and 800, respective­ly.

Jonesboro won the 800-meter relay in the boys' meet as Braelyn Moore, Tyrin Ruffin, Jesse Washington and Brock McCoy turned in a time of 1:30.20. Kavon Pointer, Moore, Leonard Dinwiddie and John Paul Pickens combined to finish third in the mile relay for the Hurricane.

The Hurricane finished ninth in the team standings with 21 points. Erik Wilson finished sixth in the triple jump while Kavon Pointer was seventh for Jonesboro.

Nettleton's Israel Malone placed second in the high jump. Manila's Connor Jackson was third in the 3200, while Blythevill­e's Dekari Clark placed third in the long jump.

Conway won the overall women's title at the MOC posting 63 points, while Vilonia ran second, Jonesboro third and Sylvan Hills fourth.

Vilonia took the overall MOC boys title scoring 46 points while Bryant finished second, Lake Hamilton third and Bentonvill­e West fourth.
