The first call was from the area of Buford and Cherry Streets.

According to the report, officers were dispatched to the area around 9 a.m. after a call came in reporting 17 gun shots in the area.

Once in the area officers made contact with a witness whose work truck had been hit.

According to the report, 17 shell casings were collected at the intersection and in front of the residence at 427 Buford Street.

Officers also responded to a separate incident around noon in the Beech Grove area.

According to the report, officers were responding to the call when they noticed a male subject standing in a yard at 404 Laughrun Road, waving an AR15 in the air. The subject was identified as Everett Williams, 41, of Forrest City.

Officers took Williams into custody and transported him to the station. Officers on scene located and collected several spent shell casing in the roadway as well as the AR15 rifle.

The department discovered back at the precinct, Williams had been convicted of a felony as well as having an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in the amount of $350.

Williams was charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits as well as possession of a firearm by a certain person.

Police Chief Deon Lee encourages all residents to call in each incident of shots heard for their neighborhood.

“We are asking the public if they see something, say something,” said Lee. “Call 911 or our non-emergency number to report anything you might suspect as a crime. We do not mind coming out if it is a false alarm or not. We would rather you report something.”
