Fireworks show planned at Complex Friday night

- Brodie Johnson T-H Staff Writer

A fireworks show Friday night will conclude an evening full of activities in Forrest City.

The annual “Night of Fireworks in the Delta" is set to begin about 9 p.m., at the Sports Complex on Highway 1 South.

Miles Kimble, the event’s organizer, said more money has been spent on the fireworks show this year compared to previous shows.

"We were actually allowed to spend more money this year to make the show bigger and more grand than previous years,” said Kimble. "We had the ability to spend $12,500 on fireworks this year. We don't want to bore people. The typical fireworks show lasts 15 to 20 minutes at most, so that is what we are shooting for this year."

A CommUNITY Jazz Jam is planned for 5 to 8 p.m., in the area around the St. Francis County Museum and the First United Methodist Church.

“I strongly encourage people to take part in that event as well,” said Kimble. “They have been working hard to get that together.”

Similar to last year’s event, music and entertainment leading up to the fireworks show will begin at 8 p.m., on local radio station KXJK 950 AM/106.5 FM.

Kimble said he is appreciative of the Forrest City Advertising and Promotion Commission for funding the event and especially appreciative of the support from the community.

"I appreciate the A&P Commission for being supportive of this event," said Kimble. "Without their support, this would not be possible. Also, without the people coming out to enjoy the event, it would not be possible to continue doing this year after year. They make it successful. I am thankful that Covid numbers are decreasing and that we can spend time with

Kimble also noted the holiday celebration planned in Palestine on Saturday as another opportunity for residents to celebrate Independence Day.

Palestine will host its events downtown with live music, carnival rides, games and food, from 2 to 8 p.m. The city will present a fireworks show on Saturday, starting about dark, behind the high school campus on Highway 70 West.

Kimble said he enjoys organizing Forrest City’s fireworks show each year as one way to bring the community together.

“I love Forrest City,” said

Kimble. “When the people in our community are happy, I am happy. I encourage families to come out and enjoy the show, but I also would like to encourage people on Saturday to drive out to Palestine and take part in their festivities and watch their show."
