-

People throughout the area looking for something to do this holiday weekend should look no further than their own communities.

Fireworks shows are planned for tonight and tomorrow night in Forrest City, Palestine and Colt.

In Forrest City, today’s festivities kick off with a CommUNITY Jazz Jam in the downtown area near the St. Francis County Museum. Food trucks, booths and music will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m., leading up to the fireworks show tonight at the Sports Complex.

The “Night of Fireworks in the Delta” is scheduled to begin just after dark, and last about 20 minutes.

Organizer Miles Kimble said through support of the city’s Advertising and Promotion Commission, he was able to spend about $12,500 on this year’s show.

Kimble encourages everyone to attend the show tonight as well as those planned in Palestine and Colt on Saturday.

Palestine’s fireworks show is also scheduled to begin just after dark. The show will be held behind the Palestine-Wheatley High School Campus on Highway 70 West to allow for more parking for those viewing the show.

Organizers were able to spend about $7,500 on fireworks through support of the city’s Advertising and Promotion Commission.

Palestine has a day full of activities planned leading up to the fireworks show. The city’s downtown will feature live music, carnival rides, games and food from 2 to 8 p.m.

Live music will be provided by a pair of bands. From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Live Wire Band will perform, followed by the Jukebox Zeros.

Colt will also host a fireworks show, after dark, on Saturday, according to Mayor Randy Hefner, who encourages everyone to “come out, bring a lawn chair and enjoy the show.”
