Events planned in FCity receive support of A&P

Commissioners ask state agency for opinion on mayor’s request for SugarDitch funding

Four events planned in Forrest City received support this morning from the city’s Advertising and Promotion Commission.

Commissioners did not meet in person, but instead voted via phone poll on the requests.

The commission did not, however, vote on a request from Forrest City Mayor Cedric Williams for the A&P to fund a 12-month contract with SugarDitch Communications in the amount of $4,000 each month.

A similar request was made by Williams in the summer of 2019, for a six-month contract with SugarDitch at a cost of $4,000 a month, but commissioners denied the request at that time.

This year’s request was tabled until the commission receives an opinion from the Arkansas Municipal League regarding the proposal. Commissioners said they plan to meet in person to discuss that request after receiving the opinion.

Events that did receive A&P support included the Forrest City Athletic Hall of Fame event, Jr. Auxiliary’s Merry Market, a car show and brochures for the recreation department.

The FC Athletic Hall of Fame Committee submitted a request for $13,720 to induct the 2020 and 2021 Hall of Fame classes. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, Sept. 24.

"The purpose of this day is to recognize the outstanding athletes, coaches and others who have made outstanding contributions to athletics and provided support to Lincoln High and Forrest City High School," wrote Dr. Rodney Echols, executive director of the committee, in the request. "The 2020 Hall of Fame event was not held due to Covid-19 restrictions. This year, we will induct two classes – the 2020 and 2021 classes."

Junior Auxiliary of St. Francis County plans to hold its annual Merry Market on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Forrest City Civic Center.

The group requested $4,000 for advertising and rental for the Civic Center.

The Strictly Vettes of Memphis Corvette Club requested funding for a car show that has previously been held in Forrest City.

(Continued from Page 1) According to the request, the One Forrest City, One Community, One Vision Charity Car Show is scheduled to be held at the Civic Center on Saturday, Sept. 18. The group requested $4,250.

The request shows that the club is a “501(c)3 organization that was established for the purpose of providing financial aid and goods to people who have suffered due to natural, human-made or other disasters and to provide methods to engage and mobilize new audiences through car related events.”

These requests were approved unanimously by commissioners.

Commissioners also approved a request from Williams for brochures to advertise the Larry S. Bryant Multipurpose and Wellness Center and the Aquatic Center.

"The city is requesting help with advertising our health, wellness and expansion Aquatic Center to bring additional people to Forrest City, therefore increasing tax revenue in our city," wrote Williams in the request. "We will place these brochures in all of our local hotels plus send them to targeted entities across the state."
