Museum hosting summer programs for children
The St. Francis County Museum's Summer Program this week will focus on the Arkansas Traveller and other folk tales.
The program, which is being held at the museum from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., each Thursday throughout the month, is focusing on folk tales and activities this year.
According to SFC Museum Curator Judy Sweet, because very few children attended the program last week, the same program will be repeated this week.
"We will be doing a little bit of a study on the Arkansas Traveller this week," said Sweet. "We are repeating last week’s program because nobody showed up. We will see what Thursday brings and we hope to have a much better turnout."
Sweet said crafts and snacks will be available during the program for children.
"We will have little crafts and snacks available to the kids in attendance," said Sweet. "There was a fishing derby and an event for the 4-H group going on last Thursday, and I know this week there are Vacation Bible Schools being held. There is a lot for kids to be out doing right now."
According to Sweet, children in the area have a lot of programs to choose from each day.
"Instead of the kids not having much to do, they currently have too much to choose from," said Sweet. "I don't know what the summer
(Continued from Page 1) ball teams schedules are either. At this point, we will just wait and see what each week brings to the museum."
Sweet said that although the programs are for children in kindergarten through fifth grades, kindergarteners may struggle being there on their own.
"The programs are for children from kindergarten through fifth," said Sweet. "I would prefer the kindergarten kids have parents with them. The older kids who have been through kindergarten, I figure can handle everything we do. It just depends on if they know how to sit and listen and line up and those kinds of things. Those who have never been in a classroom will need to have a parent with them. It may be a little advanced for a kindergartner, but we have coloring pages and other activities they can do while we are talking."
