Mustang coaches, players part of SONCOM media days

Forrest City Mustang Head Coach Teli White along with junior high assistant coach Teraye Lee and Mustang players Alexander Isom, Justin Edwards Trevon Gordon, and Chance Taylor recently participat­ed in the NEA Sports/KJNB High School SONCOM High School Football Media Day held in Jonesboro.

The event provided coaches and players with the opportunit­y to meet one of White's former high school football players from Trezevant High School in Memphis, Jamal Jones.

Jones, a former running back at Trezevant and Arkansas State University, is a 2015 graduate of Trezevant and now serves as Assistant Director for Developmen­t and Director of Letterwinn­er Relations at ASU.

White took over the Forrest City football program in February. He replaces longtime head coach Rich Trail, who stepped down after 14 seasons.

Forrest City will host Palestine-Wheatley on Friday, Aug. 20, for a preseason scrimmage game at Sam Smith Stadium and is scheduled to open the 2021 prep season on Aug. 27, at Star City.

Palestine-Wheatley will host Forrest City for a preseason junior high football scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 19 at Patriot Field.

Palestine-Wheatley will open their varsity football season on Aug. 27 as well at Des Arc under interim head coach Paxton Crawford.

The Patriots worked through the second of three scheduled 7on-7 passing events Tuesday night at Patriot Field hosting Clarendon, McCrory and Cross

County. The third and final 7-on7 will be held on Tuesday, July 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Official summer drills will begin on Aug. 4.

Lee Academy will once again participat­e in a preseason football jamboree on Friday, Aug. 13 at DeSoto School in HelenaWest Helena.

The Cougars will open the season at Union Christian in Farmervill­e, La. on Friday, Aug. 20, under first year head coach Patrick Marter.

The 29th annual Hooten's Arkansas Football is scheduled to arrive at retail outlets across the state within the next week or two.

The 432-page book includes in-depth previews of the Hogs, SEC, A-State, all the state college teams and all 187 high school teams as well as instate college coverage.
