Forrest City coach joins P-W football, track coaching staff

-

Palestine-Wheatley superintendent Jon Estes said earlier this week that Mark Main, who has coached the Forrest City seventh grade Colts program the past three seasons, will be joining the Patriots coaching staff Monday when he officially signs his contract.

Estes said while Main's hiring has not gone before the board yet, the longtime P-W superintendent was give the authority by the board to make the hire.

Main, also an assistant coach with the Lady Mustangs softball team, will be an assistant coach with the junior and senior high PW football team, joining interim head coach Paxton Crawford and assistant Steve Sherland.

Main, according to a recent text from Estes, will also coach the Palestine-Wheatley junior and senior high track programs.

The assistant football and track coaching positions opened when Ryan Halbert left to move into an administrative position with the Drew Central School District. His wife, Bonnie had coached the girls cross country and girls track program as well as working for the district in other non-coaching capacities.

Forrest City superintendent Tiffany Hardrick has officially released Main from his Forrest City contract, according to a text this morning from Main.

It is expected that Main will work mainly with the Patriots defensive units for the upcoming 2021 prep football season.

Main's wife, Amber, currently the Forrest City girls volleyball coach, will remain with the Lady Mustangs program.

Crawford, who an assistant baseball coach at Forrest City last season, has been named the head coach for the 2021 P-W prep baseball season as well as serving as interim head coach for the Palestine-Wheatley football programs.

Crawford steps in for departed head football coach Carey Knowlton who resigned to take a nonmatching job opportunity in Louisiana.

The girls volleyball and softhead coaching positions came available when Heather Hawk resigned to take similar coaching positions with the Cabot School District. Both have been filled by P-W coaches already on staff.
