P-W will host basketball team camps next two weeks

-

Palestine-Wheatley will host both junior and senior high team camps Wednesday and Thursday, July 28 and 29, at the new Patriot Gym.

The junior high teams will compete in games on Wednesday while the senior high boys team will play camp games on Thursday.

Each team will play three games durng the camp utilizing a running clock for two halves.

Joining Palestine-Wheatley in the junior girls schedule will be Forrest City, Wynne, Cross County, and Bismarck, while the PalestineWheatley junior boys will host Earl, England, and Forrest City. and the senior boys will host Mt. Pine, Cross County and England.

The junior boys team camp games will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue through 12:30 with the junior girls playing the afternoon session beginning at 12:30 p.m. and continuing until 5:40.

The senior girls session, scheduled for Thursday, July 29, has been cancelled and will be rescheduled according to a text message sent late Sunday evening by P-W girls coach Zack O'Brien.

"We are having some issues with the senior girls numbers," O'Brien said. "Some due to Covid and some due to family issues and other obligations. The junior girls are still good to go as scheduled, but we will probably have to move the senior girls team camp schedule back to the first week in August. If we can't do that we will have no choice but to cancel the senior girls portion of the team camps. I probably will not have a full senior girls squad but if we can reschedule we will go with the girls we have."

Palestine-Wheatley will also be hosting an elementary individual team camp August 9-10, for boys and girls entering grades second through seventh.

The second, third and fourth grade boys and girls will be in the camp from 9 until 11 a.m. both days while the fifth, sixth and seventh graders will be in the camp from 1 until 3:30 p.m. both days, according to O'Brien and PW boys basketball coach Jim Wallace.

The cost for the camp is $20 per camper and registration may be made and returned to the high school office due by Wednesday, July 28. Checks may be made payable to the Palestine-Wheatley School District.

The $20 dollar registration fee includes a t-shirt for each camper. Late registration will be accepted beginning 30 minutes before the start of the first day camp sessions.

Team camp fundamentals will include ball handling, shooting, defense and rebounding. Games and contests will be played each day.

••••• Additionally, the PalestineWheatley Patriot football team will host the third and final 7-on-7 event Tuesday, July 27 at Patriot Field beginning at 6:30 p.m.
