FCSD sets dates for registration, back-to-school fair

Classes scheduled to resume Aug. 16

-

The Forrest City School District is making plans for the start of the 2021-22 school year, with students scheduled to arrive on campuses on Monday, Aug. 16.

The district will host its annual back-to-school event on Saturday, Aug. 7.

“In an effort to make the event as safe as possible, the back-to-school fair will be a drive-through event from 9 to 11 a.m., in the parking lots of Central Elementary School and Forrest City High School,” said FCSD Public Relations Director Kendall Owens. “Supplies for students in kindergarten through fifth grades will be distributed on the elementary campus, and supplies for students in sixth through 12th grades will be distributed at the high school.

The district encourages anyone who wants to make a donation or volunteer for the event, to contact Lasandra Bean by telephone at 870-633-1485, ext. 103, or by email at lasandra.bean@fcmustangs.net.

"We have held the back-toschool fair for several years thanks to the support of the Forrest City community,” said Owens. “Due to the pandemic, we had to shift to a drivethrough event last year but we were able to provide support to those parents and students who needed it. With the rising cases of Covid-19 currently, we feel it is best to continue with a drivethrough event this year. We hope in the near future we will be able to shift back to our traditional back-to-school fair.”

The district’s staff will begin professional development on Monday, Aug. 9, and continue through Friday, Aug. 13.

The district will hold a district-wide open house on Friday, Aug. 13, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Due to the rising cases of the Covid-19 Delta variant, district officials strongly urge parents to wear masks and have masks for their children when attending the open house. Social distancing guidelines will also be enforced.

The district has also announced its registration schedules for the Sixth Grade Academy, as well as the junior and senior high schools.

Registration will open next week for both the sixth grade and junior high students.

Sixth grade registration will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and seventh grade registration will follow on Wednesday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eighth grade registration will close out the week on Thursday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parents or guardians will be required to check in at the main office before being directed to the registration locations.

New students will register from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Monday, Aug. 9. Also on Aug. 9, orientation for ninth grade students will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at which time members of the freshman class will also be able to pick up their schedules.

Juniors and seniors may pick up schedules on Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 6 p.m. Freshmen and sophomores may pick up schedules on Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 8 a.m. until noon and 2 to 6 p.m. All high school students will be able to pick up schedules on Thursday, Aug. 12, from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Masks are strongly urged during registration on both campuses and social distancing guidelines will be followed, according to school officials.
