Mustang players work harder, getting stronger and faster
First year Forrest City Mustang football coach Teli White has been preaching conditioning, which has been at the forefront of summer team improvements for White, especially for the past few weeks as his players prepare for the upcoming 2021 prep football season.
According to White and several players, the Mustangs have been working hard on offense and defense in preparation for the season opener on Aug. 27, at Star City and said the team is coming together and are beginning to feel like they are all on the same page.
The Mustangs will host Palestine-Wheatley on Friday, Aug. 20 for a preseason scrimmage game and will play a junior high scrimmage game Thursday, Aug. 19, at Palestine Wheatley.
Several players noted they feel stronger due to the enhanced lifting portion of the summer drills which they say have made them faster as well as stronger.
The team, wearing new shoes, pants, and shirts and hemets have arrived as part of the uniforms ordered for the team by White, is working on defensive plays and alignments
Mustang players Courtney Austin, Chance Taylor, Anthony Lewis, Octavion Washington, Cyrus Watson, Jakobe Shell and Elijah Hardin were recognized this recently by Coach White, for making significant gains in weight lifting with “Iron Man Club” T-shirts.
Earlier this summer, the Mustangs participated in the Big Man and 7-on-7 football camps held at the University of Memphis. Several dozen schools were in attendance, including teams from Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
