FCity sales tax revenue continues to increase

Sales tax revenue in Forrest City continues to increase, as June reports show the city received almost $50,000 more in tax revenue last month than in May.

Reports from the Arkansas Municipal League and the Arkansas Department of Finance show that Forrest City collected $386,519.92 in June 2021 from its city tax collection, which is more than the amount collected at the same time last year, which was $338,375.47, according to the AML.

According to City and Town magazine, six cities in St. Francis County collect a municipal sales tax. Widener was the only city where the city sales tax revenue was less this year than last.

The other cities reportedly collected more revenue from their city sales taxes.

The June 2021 figures are listed with last year’s figures in parenthesi­s: Hughes $9,997.01 ($6,962.92), Madison $2,117.60 ($1,428.13), Palestine $31,350.66 ($26,868.33), Wheatley $3,959.32 ($3,770.90) and Widener $2,969.24 ($3,799.04).

Municipali­ties in the county will receive $462,784.09 in June this year from the county sales tax, which is more than the amount in June 2020, which was $399,407.35, according to the reports.

Each city within the county receives a share of the county taxes.

From the county tax, Forrest City received $315,256.80 in June, which is more than the amount collected the previous year, which was $272,083.42.

Other cities that collect revenue from the county tax are listed with the 2020 figures in parenthesi­s: Caldwell $11,382.96 ($9,824.10), Colt $7,752.72 ($6,691.02), Hughes $29,554.68 ($25,507.26), Madison $15,772.06 ($13,612.14), Palestine $13,967.20 ($12,054.44), Wheatley $7,281.00 ($6,283.88) and Widener $5,599.20 ($4,832.40).
