FCity’s crosswalks projects nearing completion
Volunteers painted another crosswalk today in downtown Forrest City, leaving only four projects to be completed.
Anna Howton organized the crosswalks as part of a connectivity project through the Arkansas Delta Region Obesity Project (ArDROP).
"We have three more to be completed at the Rosser and Garland intersection," said Howton. "Then, the last one will be near the Forrest City Civic Center."
Howton said the variety of the work shown on the crosswalks is “great.”
"The one today is going to be very neat. They are getting very detailed with it," said Howton of the crosswalk being painted this morning by St. Francis County
Farm Bureau employees at the Rosser and Dillard intersection. “The art highlights Arkansas and the many resources of the Delta Region.
"We've had floral daisies, we've had one to encourage reading, landscape, scenery and more abstract ones," said Howton. "Today's is going to be a very detailed crosswalk representing the state of
(Continued from Page 1) Arkansas and a lot of natural resources and things available in the Delta.
"There is also an American Flag one and one with bricks that says look with arrows pointing both ways," added Howton. "I love how detailed the bricks are. I think they did a perfect job on that."
Howton said the connectivity project is funded through the ArDROP grant to promote walking and healthy living.
"All the funding has been provided through ArDROP, which has supported the crosswalk and the farmers market. This deals with connectivity and safety. Connecting people to healthy food and getting people safely to those areas,” said Howton.
She said another step in the project would be adding reflective tape to the edges of the crosswalks for additional safety at night.
According to Howton, once the crosswalks that are scheduled are completed, the group will review funds to determine if more can be done.
"We are going to see how many supplies we have left after the last four are completed to see if we can open up and do more of these," said Howton. "There are specifications that have to be met for the crosswalks, such as city approval of location and the specific grade of street paint."
