Members of the Colt Community Development Corporation plan to bring the Colt Pioneer Day back this fall, after the event was cancelled last year because of Covid.

Walter Meals, with the Colt CDC, said this year would have been the 30th Pioneer Day in the city had the event not been canceled last year.

"This year would have been the 30th anniversary of our Pioneer Day, but due to the pandemic last year we couldn't hold the event," said Meals. "So, this year is our 29th Pioneer Day at the William Stone House. We did change the festival from two days to one this year, also due to Covid, out of concern for our volunteers and all those who attend.

The event traditionally draws a good crowd to the city. “We generally have a pretty good turnout for our events. We are just so thankful for the support of the community,” said Meals.

Meals said there will be a variety of food and refreshments available, including the beans and cornbread which have always been popular.

"We will be serving our famous beans and cornbread along with nachos, hamburgers, hot dogs, chili pies and all kinds of soft drinks," said Meals. "Be sure to come by the snack shack and check out our food items while you are there."

According to Meals, the daylong event will feature live gospel music and several different booths.

"We will have gospel singing by local singers and musicians," said Meals. "We will also have historical exhibits and informational and handcraft booths set up. There will be no fees charged for the booths, and if anyone would like to set up a booth, they can contact us at either 501-626-7138 or 501-6267254."

Meals said organizers are excited to bring back the event, even though it has been reduced to one day.

"Everyone is welcome to come, of course," said Meals. "We are really excited to get back into it and we hope to see people out and about at our Pioneer Day. Bring your lawn chairs and join us out on the lawn of the William Stone House on Sept. 11."
