Forrest City man shot in attempted robbery at ATM
A Forrest City man was shot during an attempted robbery overnight at an ATM on West Broadway as he fled from the suspects.
About 1 a.m., the Forrest City Police Department was notified by the local hospital that Dennis Dewayne Fisk, 48, 2979 SFC 229, was about to be airlifted to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis for treatment of a gunshot wound.
Officers spoke with Fisk at the hospital, who told them he and his girlfriend were at the ATM near the Highway 1 Bypass when two black males armed with weapons approached the passenger side of their 1999 Chevrolet Geo Prism.
Fisk told police he “stomped the accelerator” and sped off in an attempt to get away when he heard a gunshot and the rear windshield of the vehicle shatter before realizing he had been shot. Fisk reportedly drove himself to the hospital.
Hospital personnel told police the bullet was lodged in Fisk’s upper right bicep where it had broken the bone in several places.
The couple told officers two black males wearing blue face masks approached them, pulled a weapon and demanded money. Fisk said one of the suspects was about five feet, six inches tall and slim. The girlfriend told police one suspect was wearing a black hat, sunglasses and gray sweatshirt.
At the scene, police recovered one .40 caliber Smith and Wesson shell casing.
The shooting comes less than a week after another shooting in Forrest City.
About 1 p.m., Thursday, Lloyd Barber, 28, of Forrest City drove himself to the hospital after being shot in the arm outside a convenience store near the Cook and Division Streets intersection. Barber told police he was driving in front of the store when he was shot, but did not know who shot him.
