Andrew Adolphus Murdock Sr. (1937-2021)

-

Andrew Adolphus Murdock Sr., transitioned from life early Saturday morning, Aug. 28, 2021.

Andrew was born in Marianna on June 24, 1937. He was the second eldest of six children born to the late Claude and Alberta (Roe) Murdock.

Andrew was educated in Lee County and graduated from R.R. Moton High School in 1955. After high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army. On his return, he started an extensive career as a cement finisher in South Bend, Ind., where he would spend more than 60 years of life.

For 26 of those years, Andrew was a devoted pastor to the members of the First Baptist Church of Kings Lake in Rochester, Ind.

He was affectionately known as “Daddy” by his children, “Paw-Paw” by his grandchildren, “Bubba” by his siblings and “Rev. Murdock” by his church family. Andrew truly believed in the value of family, discipline and strong work ethic. He accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and shared his love for Christ with all who knew him. His parents instilled in him the importance of hard work and respect for elders. His sisters, brothers, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends looked up to him as children and as adults.

He was a loving husband, awesome father and devoted pastor. His ultimate joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid card player and was always eager to play a game of spades/Bid whist at every family gathering. His infectious laugh will be remembered by all who knew him. He faced his illness with courage, faith and resilience. We were there to support him, but as usual, he ministered to us throughout his transition to heavenly peace.

Andrew was reunited in death with his parents, Claude and Alberta Murdock; brother, Claude II; sisters, Jacqueline, Alma and Ora; daughter, Jackie, and grandsons, Reggie Jr. and A.J.

Left to treasure a legacy of precious memories are his wife, Barbara (Alexander) Murdock; sons, Darryl (Kathleen) Murdock and Andrew (Cynthia) Murdock II, all of South Bend, Ind., Marvin (Cynthia) Murdock Sr. and Anthony (Latrece) Murdock Sr., all of Indianapolis, Ind., and Reginald (Willie) Murdock Sr., of Marianna; a brother, W.H. Calvin (Linda) Murdock of Marianna, as well as 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a special aunt, Laura (Francis) Fisk of South Bend, Ind., and beloved extended family members and friends.
