Mack Agnew

-

Mack Agnew, a 1969 Lincoln High School graduate, never got tired of running and that helped Agnew letter in both football and track.

Agnew was the Tiger's starting wide receiver and was called "one of the most aggressive and fastest receivers in the history of Lincoln football."

Agnew downplays that statement somewhat.

"I was just doing my best to try and help us win every game we could," Agnew said. "It helped that I kept myself in good condition which allowed me to make some of those catches. I never got tired of running and I drank a lot of milk."

Agnew never lost a football game from 10th through 12th grade.

Agnew is remembered for making long receptions during the Tigers' undefeated 1968 football season earning Region 2A AllConference recognition for Coach Eugene Roo.

Off the football field, Agnew was a sprinter for the Tiger track team, running the 100, 200 and quarter mile events.

Following graduation, Agnew attended Alcorn State in Mississippi, but was not given a scholarship offer even though during one Alcorn State practice, he beat out two of the team's leading receiver breaking loose to score a touchdown against Alcorn's No. 1 defensive unit, but he still never played a down in regular season.

Agnew walked away from Alcorn State deciding to enlist in the US Army, where he served close to 26 years, including two tours in Viet Nam and one during Desert Storm in Iraq as an expert marksman. Relocating to Little Rock following the end of his formal enlistment, Agnew joined the Army Reserves spending another 15 years.

Agnew will be inducted into the Forrest City Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 24, representing the Lincoln High School era as part of last year's 2020 Class.

He will be joined by then teammate Bobby Bryant, a defensive end for that 1968 Tigers football team.
