Junior Mustangs host Junior Rams tonight

- Fred Conley

Forrest City Junior Mustang football coach Chris Siler likes where his team is at this point in the season.

Tonight, Siler's Junior Mustangs (4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference) will host Paragould in what will be a key matchup for both teams at Sam Smith Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Forrest City and Valley View are tied for second in the 5A-East Conference, both at 2-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall. The Junior Mustangs lost to Valley View in their conference game 27-14.

Wynne is unbeaten at 6-0 and 3-0.

In the 13 previous meetings with Paragould, Forrest City leads the series 10-3, dating back to the the 2008 season, the first year the Junior Rams moved into the current conference.

Forrest City is coming off a 229 road win over Batesville last week.

"The key for us is to just stay focused," Siler said. "No matter who we play. And at this point all the records go out the window. When you lose that focus you set that and lose one that you should not have lost. Coach (Kevin) Mosley has been teaching the kids about an 'uh-ohs.' We don't want any uh-ohs in any of our four remaining games."

Siler would like nothing better than to see his team grab another signature win tonight.

"Last week's win at Batesville was a big win for us," Siler added. "When we make the trip to Batesville and pick up a win, it is almost a trademark win for us. Batesville runs such a great program and to go there and beat them is something that doesn't happen very often."

Being 4-2 and 2-1 at this point was something Siler and his staff envisioned at the beginning of the season.

"I've talked about it before. Our freshmen got a lot of playing time last season as eighth graders and we were already waiting for this season so we could start reaping the rewards of their playing time a year ago. Our freshmen gained a wealth of experience last season. And once we got into summer drills we could tell it was beginning to pay off."

No big change of game plans for tonight, according to Siler.

"We are just going to keep doing what we have been doing," Siler said. "We kinda make adjustments as we go. Some of the teams have stacked the box against us and forced us to throw the ball. That happened last week at Batesville. But it was fine. Pass or run, as a team we feel confident that we can do both."
