A-State Theatre reveals 2021-2022 season of productions

-

The Arkansas State University Department of Theatre is announcing its season for 2021-2022. “The Importance of Being Earnest” opens the season followed by “A Christmas Carol,” “Stop Kiss,” and “Head over Heels.” All performances will take place in the Drama Theatre of Fowler Center on the Arkansas State University campus.

“The Importance of Being Earnest: A trivial comedy for serious people” is Oscar Wilde's most popular play. A witty and farcical exploration of two friends who share a "pseudonym" in an attempt to avoid their social responsibilities, this production plays Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22-23 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29-30, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10-15.

A-State alumnus David Norris has adapted the Charles Dickens standard to create “A Christmas Carol: A Radio Play.”

Magic, comedy, music, and holiday cheer characterize this faithful and fun adaptation of a holiday classic. Watch as everyone's favorite greedy misanthrope, Ebenezer Scrooge, meets three magical Christmas spirits that raise questions about his choices. Witness the staged recording of this world premiere radio play Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3-4, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10-15.

Variety called it "A poignant and funny play about the ways, both sudden and slow, that lives can change irrevocably." Diana Son's critically acclaimed play “Stop Kiss” takes place after Callie meets Sara, and they unexpectedly fall in love. Unfortunately, their first kiss provokes a violent attack that transforms their lives in a way they could never anticipate. Performances are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18-19, at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10-15.

The season closes with the music of The Go-Go's. A hilarious and exuberant celebration of love, “Head over Heels” follows the escapades of a royal family on an outrageous journey to save their beloved kingdom from extinction — only to discover the key to their realm's survival lies within each of their own hearts. “Head over Heels” was conceived by Jeff Whitty and adapted by James MacGruder. Performances are Thursday through Saturday, April 21-23, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, April 2324, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12$17.

Tickets are available in advance at AState.edu/tickets.
