Trick or treating times set for Saturday night

Residents who plan to celebrate Halloween this year by trick or treating in neighborho­ods are encouraged to do that Saturday night, instead of Sunday.

Forrest City Police Chief Deon Lee said that with the holiday falling on Sunday this year, the city’s official time for observing Halloween will be Saturday, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Several events are planned in Forrest City throughout the weekend to allow everyone an opportunit­y to enjoy Halloween.

On Friday, the annual Forrest Street Halloween Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m., and continue until 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Forrest City Advertisin­g and Promotion Commission.

Members of Junior Auxiliary of St. Francis County will be set up for a trunk or treat on the lawn at the Campbell House, near the intersecti­on of Forrest and Dillard where the parade traditiona­lly begins.

Several events are planned for Saturday.

A trunk or treat will be held at the Forrest City Sports Complex, from 5 to 7 p.m., and from 5 to 8 p.m., a Halloween event will be held at the JB Fireballer­s recreation center at 136 W. Broadway in Forrest City.

Village Creek State Park will host its annual Trunk or Treat from 5 to 8 p.m. Participan­ts will be set up at Campground A. The first 500 children will receive a free flashlight, and random best costume awards will be handed out during the event. Pumpkin contest winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m., at the Dracula Disco.

Those attending are encouraged to park and walk to each decorated campsite to receive a trick or treat. Food vendors are also scheduled to participat­e.

ConnectPoi­nt Church in Forrest City is planning a drivethrou­gh trick or treating event on Sunday, Oct. 31, beginning at 5:30 p.m. This event will continue until 7 p.m., or until the candy supply is depleted.
