FC, PW toplay final regular season games

- Fred Conley

This week marks the final regular season football games for Forrest City and PalestineWheatley, two teams playing out their season with no state playoff chances.

It also marks the beginning of basketball for Forrest City fans who will be treated to an early look at both the Mustang and Lady Mustang teams Wednesday night in a Blue-White event set for Dwight Lofton Arena.

The Mustangs will make their final road trip on Friday to Brookland, facing the Bearcats for the first time ever in football.

Brookland, bumped up to Class 5A prior to the 2020 prep season, and Forrest City did not play last season due to covid converns cancelling the game.

Brookland replaces Blytheville on the Mustangs football schedule. The Chickasaws dropped down to Class 4A.

Brookland can qualify for the state playoffs for the first time in school history with a win over the Mustangs on Friday.

Brookland is paced by senior Kaden Matthews who ran 12 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns in last week's 28-8 victory at Paragould.

Senior David York caught a 31-yard touchdown pass and returned an interception 72 yards for another score, his sixth pick of the season.

Forrest City gave up more than 300 yards rushing in last week's 47-0 loss to Wynne and finished with negative yardage and no first downs.

The Forrest City Junior Mustangs will host Brookland Thursday in the final regular season game for each team.

Palestine-Wheatley will end the year Thursday when they host Harrisburg at Patriot Field.

Harrisburg defeated Corning 47-14 last week and will claim the fourth seed in 3-3A with a win this week.
