May seeking reelection as SFC Sheriff, Collector

-

Sheriff Bobby May announced today that he will be an Independent candidate for reelection to the office of sheriff and collector for St. Francis County, subject to the November ballot in 2022.

When asked why an Independent, May responded, “I feel that all politics is local and that candidates running for local office should not be tied to one party affiliation.

“I am an American first and an independent thinker. I represent all people regardless of party,” said May.

May said he is very proud of “all the success that has been accomplished” while serving as sheriff.

“The interstate interdictory force has been most successful keeping harden criminals from entering St. Francis County off of Interstate 40 and committing crimes. The I-40 corridor between Little Rock and West Memphis is the most traveled in the United States,” said May. “We have made many arrests of would-be bad guys, particularly drug runners. I am very proud of all the hard work that the department as a whole has done. Our crime problem in the county is down compared to other counties around us.

“Our collector side is nothing short of fantastic,” May continued. “We collect somewhere around $10 million annually and always get it right. I am very proud of the ladies who work there.”

May said he is looking forward to the new jail complex opening next year.

“I am most proud and excited about our new jail, which will open in May or June 2022. The good people of St. Francis County saw fit to vote for this project, which tells of their faith in how the sheriff’s office is operating. The new jail – a $12 million project – is a mainstay of how the citizens feel about keeping our county safe and secure. My pledge is to honor them by doing the kind of work they expect and fully deserve,” he said.

May has served 15 years as sheriff of St. Francis County. He served 18 years as sheriff in Lee County, for a total of 33 years serving as sheriff. “I have enjoyed it, and it’s been an honor serving the citizens,” he said.

He holds a certificate of achievement from the University of Virginia and has a degree in criminal justice from East Arkansas Community College. He has also attended many other schools and seminars regarding criminal justice. “Education is a key factor in being a good policing administrator,” he said.

May is a 32nd degree Mason and a private pilot. He served in the U.S. Navy in Naval Aviation and is a Vietnam veteran.

“I humbly ask the good folks of St. Francis County, come Nov. 8, 2022, to re-elect me so that we can continue the progress we’ve already made,” said May. “If we remain stagnant then we are actually going backwards. Let’s move forward with continued good work and confidence.”

May continued, “I am so very grateful for all who have come forward encouraging me to run again. It means so much to have gotten the support to remain in office. God bless all and thank you for your support.”
