Foundation hoping for support on Giving Tuesday

- Katie West T-H Staff Writer

The St. Francis County Community Foundation asks residents to keep the organization in mind on Giving Tuesday.

"It is a worldwide celebration of generosity," said Robin Jayroe, with the SFC Community Foundation. "It is an opportunity for people to come together through generosity in all its forms by sharing acts of kindness and giving their voice, time, money, goods and advocacy to support their communities and causes."

Jayroe said the foundation's goal this year is to get its Giving Tree funds up by $25,000 before the next grant cycle.

"On Giving Tuesday, we are making a push this year to build up that Giving Tree fund," said Jayroe. "Our Giving Tree fund is where we give our grants out from."

Jayroe said the fund will have a spring grant cycle during which grants are awarded to local nonprofits to help them in their work throughout the community.

“We are trying to build our funds to give more money out," said Jayroe.

Jayroe said that in the past, the Giving Tree grants have supported organizations such as SFC Elves, the St. Francis County Food Pantry, Boy Scouts, the Forrest City School District and the Cara McCollum Birthday Book Project.

"We've given to so many groups I can't think of them all right now," said Jayroe. "We also gave to the Northeast Arkansas Food Bank that brings food down each month. We support their backpack program for this area.

“By donating to the Giving Tree fund, you get to support all of those organizations because we give that money back out," said Jayroe. "Our new grant fund will begin January 10 and nonprofits can go online to www.arcf.org to fill out applications for grants.”

Jayroe said people may also make monetary donations through the website for the area or send a check to the Foundation

at P.O. Box 3002, Forrest City, AR 72336.

Jayroe encourages anyone with questions to contact her at 870-261-2060 or by email at stfranciscounty@arcf.org

Several other ideas for Giving Tuesday to keep in mind are donating items such as canned goods to the St. Francis County Food Pantry or Mustang Pantry; supplies such as metal bowls, dog food or leashes to the Forrest City Area Humane Society; volunteering at the Graham Memorial Soup Kitchen; giving items and clothing to the St. Francis County Care Center, Bright Futures, Connect. Point Clothes Closet, God's Clothes Closet at First Baptist Church, Widener Outreach Ministries, Christmas Boxes through the PLUM foundation; or giving toys or money to the St. Francis County Elves.
