FC man killed outside home becomes ninth murder victim

-

An argument between cousins overnight Friday left one dead and another charged with his murder.

The Forrest City Police Department reports Marcus Orlando Ursery, 40, was killed outside his residence at 170 Eula St., about 1 a.m., after allegedly being shot several times by Carlos Dewayne Ursery, 40, who was still at the scene when police arrived.

Ursery’s death is the ninth murder recorded in the city this year.

According to a report on file at the FCPD, officers were called to the residence about 1:10 a.m., regarding a man who was unresponsive after being shot.

Officers spoke with Carlos Ursery who told them the man on the ground was a family member, saying the man pulled a gun on him as he drove into the driveway.

Marcus Ursery was found on the ground next to Carlos Ursery’s truck with gunshot wounds to his head, left bicep and right hand. He was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the local hospital to be transported to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Carlos Ursery told police that when he arrived, Marcus Ursery came out of the residence carrying a handgun and pointing it at his vehicle. He told police he “naturally grabbed his weapon in defense and began to fire his weapon through the window” at the victim. He told police that after the victim dropped to the ground, he stopped shooting and called 911.

He was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with first-degree murder.

Ursery was booked into the St. Francis County Jail about 4 a.m., Saturday. By noon Sunday, he had posted a $200,000 bond and was released from custody with his first court appearance scheduled for today in District Court.

During the investigation, officers reportedly found a Glock handgun on the ground near Marcus Ursery. They reported that while clearing the gun of ammunition, they noticed it did not have a round inside the chamber part of the weapon and was not ready to fire, according to the report. However, police did recover a magazine for a Glock containing 15 rounds. Police also reported the serial number had been filed off the bottom of the gun, leading them to believe it may be a stolen weapon.

A second weapon, a Ruger 9mm, was found at the scene in the seat of Carlos Ursery’s pickup.

Police recovered several spent shell casings, including four in the bed of the pickup, one in the driver’s seat of the pickup and one on the ground near the rear driver’s side door of the truck.
