Margarite ‘Skeet’ Jolley (1928-2021)

Margarite “Skeet” Jolley, age 92, of Hooks, Texas, passed away in a local hospice facility on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021.

Skeet was born on Dec. 21, 1928, in Forrest City, to Luther Johnson and Lela Mae Devazier Johnson. She was a resident of North Richland Hills, Texas, for many years before moving to Hooks in 1996.

Skeet was well known in her community, serving over the years in many different capacities. Before marrying, she was a teller at First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas. She later retired from Birdville ISD, where she worked in cafeteria accounting.

She was an active member of the Hooks First United Methodist Church and was the founder of The Shepherd’s Shop, an extension of the FUMC Women’s Ministry. She also enjoyed working voter check-in at the polls during any city election. She loved her family, and cherished her neighbors. She had a knack for making friends anywhere she went and never met a stranger. She was an avid fan of the Hogs and the Cowboys. She dearly enjoyed working in her yard and was known across state lines for her pecan pralines. She possessed a servant’s heart and always provided a helping hand or hug to anyone in need. She was a pillar in the community that she loved so much.

Skeet leaves behind a wonderful legacy for her family and friends, and will always be remembered for her kind, giving nature, her contagious smile and laugh, her courageous spirit, and her unbreakabl­e faith in God.

Skeet was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Willa Mae Clark; her beloved husband, William A. “Bill” Jolley; her son, Aubrey Jolley; a daughter, Gloria Jolley and one infant daughter.

She is survived by her loving family, Luther Alan Jolley and wife, Tanda Jolley, of Hooks, Texas; three grandchild­ren, Chad Jolley and wife, Julie, of Boise, Idaho, Kirby Jolley McCasland and husband, Ryan, of Atlanta, and Lara Jolley Rains and husband, Drew, of Little Rock; two greatgrand­children, Cade Jolley of Dallas and Ella Kate McCasland; one sister, Lois “Sally” Vaughn of Forrest City, and a truly countless host of beloved family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at 2 p.m., at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City.
