Bernice Rogers (1948-2022)
Bernice Rogers, 73, passed from this life into eternal life on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at Methodist Memorial in Memphis.
Bernice, “Peco,” was born July 21, 1948, in Widener, to the late Maxine Thompson and Herman Jones.
Bernice was a member of Kynette United Methodist Church under leadership of Rev. Kennis Keys. She later decided to move her membership to New Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of Rev. James Brooks, where she served as an usher and was an active leader in the church.
Bernice graduated in 1966 from Lincoln High School. She worked as a cook at the Palestine Truck Stop for over 20 years. She also worked at Crestpark Retirement Inn as a cook. Later on, Bernice was employed with the Forrest City School District in the nutrition department. After retiring from the nutrition department, she became a grandparent serving in the school district.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Helen King and Betty Davis, and a granddaughter, Terencia Towner.
Bernice is greatly loved and missed by family. She leaves to cherish her husband of 50-plus years, Andrew Rogers Jr.; four children, Deborah Humphrey of Little Rock, Tracy Towner (Maurice) of Forrest City, and Anthony Rogers (LeShonda) and Christopher Rogers (Tamadja), all of Jonesboro. Bernice has seven grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren, three halfsisters, Doris Jones of Minnesota, Patricia Jones and Christine (Jimmy) King, all of Forrest City, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, from 5 to 6 p.m., at the New Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church.
The funeral service for Bernice Rogers, 73, of Madison will be Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at 1 p.m., at New Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor James Brooks delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow at Casteel Cemetery.
