Polar Plunge set for Saturday at VCSP
The annual Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics is on schedule to take place Saturday at Village Creek State Park, according to Theresa Book, Northeast and North Central Field Rep for Special Olympics Arkansas.
Book said she had been in contact with Village Creek State Park representatives who explained there were some limbs down at the park from the recent winter storm, but said the park should be fine for Saturday’s event.
"Registration starts at 11 a.m., with the Plunge scheduled for 12," said Book. The minimum donation to plunge is $50 and prizes for the most money raised include cash.
"There have been some who have registered already. We've have standing long-time plungers," said Book.
Those interested in plunging can find information at http://www.specialolympicsark ansas.org/polar-plunge.html, according to Book. Information includes safety measures for the event.
"CDC guidelines will be followed with masks and social distancing required," said Book.
"Please join us, come out and help with this benefit that supports the area’s athletes and the families involved with Special Olympics," adds Book. "Special Olympics Arkansas is an organization that unleashes the human spirit through the transformative power and joy of sport, every day around the state. Through programming in sports, health, education and community building, Special Olympics Arkansas is changing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, solving the global injustice, isolation, intolerance and inactivity they face.”
