February reports show tax revenue increase in FCity
The city sales tax revenue in Forrest City surpassed the $400,000 mark last month.
The Arkansas Municipal League and the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration reports show Forrest City’s sales taxes generated $418,953.10 in revenue during February, which is an increase over the revenue generated by the sales taxes in January and in February last year.
In January, the city’s sales taxes generated $389,033.42 in city tax revenue. In February last year, the city sales tax revenue was reported at $395,916.83.
According to the Municipal League’s City and Town magazine, six cities in St. Francis County collect a municipal sales tax.
Of the other five cities that have a city tax, only Hughes collected less in February than during February last year.
The February 2022 tax collection figures are listed with the 2021 figures in parenthesis: Hughes $7,327.20 ($7,334.30), Madison $1,747.19 ($1,431.27), Palestine $31,015.85 ($30,717.25), Wheatley $3,971.91 ($3,870.66) and Widener $3,741.59 ($3,063.13).
Municipalities in the county received $456,463.12 in February 2022 from the county’s sales tax, which is more than the amounts generated in February 2021, which was $443,244.85, according to the magazine’s report.
Each city within the county receives a share of the county’s sales tax.
From the county tax, Forrest City received $328,878.84 in February, which is more than the amount collected the previous year, which was $301,946.30. In January this year, Forrest City received $328,327.92 from the county tax.
Other cities that receive revenue from the county tax are listed with the 2021 figures in parenthesis: Caldwell $11,396.42 ($10,902.36), Colt $7,403.88 ($7,425.40), Hughes $26,684.30 ($28,306.86), Madison $19,179.34 ($15,106.16), Palestine $12,786.22 ($13,377.50), Wheatley $7,050.12 ($6,973.58) and Widener $5,357.04 ($5,362.76).
