FC junior, senior track teams compete at different track meets in Batesville

After learning that Thursday's scheduled track meet at Little Rock Mills had been cancelled, the Forrest City Mustangs and Lady Mustang track teams headed north to compete in the very crowded Sara Low Relays, housing 21 boys teams and 23 girls teams Thursday at Batesville.

Former Forrest City coach Michael Humphrey, now coaching at Mills, said Thursday's meet was cancelled by the school's administra­tion.

"I'm not sure why or what the reason was," Humphrey said via text. "I was not part of the decision and I was too upset to ask. It was above my head."

The Mustangs finished ninth in their side of the competitio­n, being held to just 28 points and void of a first place in any of the events.

The Mustangs managed to finish in the top 10 in nine of the events, the best finish being a second place in the 400-meter relay.

Jonesboro took first in the boys side putting up 137 points.

The Lady Mustangs held on to finish 12th overall in the girls side of the meet, registerin­g just six top 10 finishes.

The Forrest City Junior track teams participat­ed in the Batesville Junior Pioneer Relays held this past Monday at Batesville.

The Junior Mustangs finished fourth in their side of the meet with 74 points, while the Junior Lady Mustangs finished eighth with 34 points.

Thirteen teams attended the 17-event meet with Heber Springs winning the boys title and Batesville taking the girls title.

On the junior boys side, Roshawd Washington picked up a pair of first-place medals, winning the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Roderick Tiswell ran eighth in the 100-meter while Eddie Williams finished sixth in the 200.

Daylon Washington ran 10th in the 400-meter run while Karon Lee was 18th in the 800meter and Antanario Boyd competed in the mile run.

Montrell Mathews placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with Williams finishing 10th. Keelan Brister finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Forrest City, using Roshawd Washington, Tiswell, Mathews and Williams ran third in the 800-meter relay and finished fifth in the mile-relay using the quartet of Boyd, Eddie Collins, Dontrell Fryer and Lee. The Junior Mustangs ran ninth in the two-mile relay.

Collins took ninth in the high jump while Tiswell was second in the long jump, Roshawd Washington placed fifth in the triple jump with Williams finishing ninth.

Willie Fowler won the shot put with a throw of more than 46 feet, while teammate Tamarion Burks finished third in the event.

••••• Chandan Hester ran second in the 100-meter sprint for the junior girls, while Courtney Bean was 12th.

Alesia Rivera ran third in the 200-meter dash with Nevaeh McRae running fifth.

Rheagan Watson was ran eighth in the mile run.

The Junior Lady Mustangs ran fourth in the 400-meter relay and won the 800-meter relay.
