Pulaski Academy pitchers combine to shutout FCity

Pulaski Academy Bruins defeated Forrest City 15-0 on Wednesday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout in the first game of the scheduled varsity conference doublehead­er.

Pulaski Academy swept the doublehead­er winning the second game 16-1 and ending Forrest City's baseball season.

Pulaski Academy Bruins fired up the offense in the first inning of the opening game when Harrison Engskov's sacrifice fly helped the Bruins to a quick 2-0 lead.

A single run in the second inning and five in the third inning put the Bruins up 8-0 headed into the fourth inning where Pulaski Academy added seven more runs with singles by Engskov and Davis Halsell, a sacrifice fly by Kel Busby and Patrick Engskov to push PA's lead to 15-0 ending the game under the five-inning "mercy rule."

A Forrest City single stood as the only base hit for the Mustangs.

Patton Whicker started on the mound for Pulaski Academy going 1-1/3 innings allowing one hit and walking one Forrest City player to go along with five strikeouts. Caleb Rodgers and Peyton Crabtree came out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief for the Bruins.

The Mustangs used two pitchers in the loss.

Pulaski Academy closed out the doublehead­er with a 16-1 three inning victory in the second game, scoring a single run in the first inning and adding 11 runs in the second and four runs in the third inning.

The Mustangs were held to one run on just one base hit.

On Tuesday, Coach Kevin Mosley's Forrest City Mustangs saw their varsity conference baseball game slip away early and were not able to recover as Pulaski Robinson recorded an 11-0 win in the first game of the scheduled doublehead­er.

Robinson scored on a pair of doubles, a single and a stolen base in the first inning to take a quick 6-0 lead.

The Mustangs struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensivel­y containing Robinson, giving up 11 runs on seven base hits.

The starting and winning pitcher for Robinson went five innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out seven Mustang hitters.

Marcus Barnett took the pitching loss for Forrest City giving up 10 runs on six hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one. Ladarius Bradley finished out the game for the Mustangs, throwing the final two innings.

Octavian Washington led the Mustangs by coming through with the only base hit in two at bats.

A single bright spot for the Mustangs was a perfect defense not committing a single error in the game.

There were no game stats available for the nightcap, an 180, three inning victory for the Senators.

Forrest City wrapped up their varsity baseball season on Wednesday, taking on Pulaski Academy in Little Rock in a doublehead­er reschedule­d from last week.

Bolstered by a seven-run, fourth inning Central Arkansas Christian held on to put down the Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots 10-5 in a varsity softball conference game played Tuesday at the Palestine Sports Complex.

The Lady Patriots plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and added two additional runs in the bottom of the seventh to set the final.

Emmaleigh Spencer started the Palestine-Wheatley fifth inning advancing to third base via a CAC error and extended the error to score cutting the CAC lead to 7-1. Kennedi Davenport followed with a ground ball and reached on another CAC error scoring Savannah Hooker.

Davenport was able to take second and advanced to third on error which led to the Lady Patriots' third run of the inning.

Spencer, Hooker, Kaylee Guest and Davenport each posted runs for the Lady Patriots.

Sara Kate Anderson went the full game for P-W in the pitcher's circle giving up 10 runs on 15 hits and four walks striking out one.

Brooklyn White got the start for Central Arkansas Christian and allowed five runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out 13 with out allowing a walk.

The Forrest City Lady Mustangs saw their season come an end on Tuesday, losing to Lonoke in a play-in game to determine the final team for the upcoming 4A-5 regional tournament bracket at the Wynne Sports Complex Tuesday.

The Palestine-Wheatley Patriot baseball team will enter the upcoming Class 3A regional tournament, scheduled to be played at Dover, as the No. 4 seed from the 3A-2 conference behind top seeded Central Arkansas Christian, DeWitt and Episcopal Collegiate.

Palestine-Wheatley's conference teams opted not to play a district tournament, sending the top four teams into regionals.

The Arkansas Activities Associatio­n district baseball tournament­s are being played this week at various sites.

The regional tournament­s will be played from May 5-7 at already-determined locations. From there, the top four from each of the regional tournament­s will advance to their respective state tournament­s.

Classes 5A and 6A do not have district tournament­s or regional tournament­s but have state tournament­s composed of 16 and eight teams respective­ly. Based on conference standings, the top six teams from each 6A conference reach state while the top four from each qualify for 5A.
