P-W teams begin play at 3A-3 regionals at Dover

The Palestine-Wheatley baseball and softball teams headed to Dover this morning to begin play in the 3A-3 baseball and softball regional tournament­s, which were postponed from yesterday.

The Patriots, 12-12 overall and 5-6 in the 3A-6 conference, enter the regionals as the No. 4 seed from the 3A-6 conference and will face the Little Rock based Baptist Prep Eagles, the top seed from the 3A-5 conference. That game was scheduled to get underway at noon.

Baptist Prep ran the board finishing unbeaten in the 3A-5 conference this season and brings an overall 13-8 mark into today's regional matchup.

The winner returns on Saturday to face the DeWitt/Dover winner at 10 a.m.

Prior to the regional tournament, PalestineW­heatley's Conner Teal was selected to the 3A-6 AllConfere­nce team, according to head coach Paxton Crawford.

Teal led the Patriots this season with a .453 batting average.

The Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots softball team earned the No. 3 seed from the 3A-6 conference into today's first round regional games.

The Lady Patriots are scheduled to face Atkins, the No. 2 seed from the 3A-5 conference in a 5:30 p.m. start today.

The winner returns on Saturday to face the CAC/Lamar winner in a 12:30 p.m. semifinal game.

Today's winners automatica­lly qualify for the upcoming Class 3A state tournament.

The start of the Class 4A East Region baseball and softball tournament­s has been pushed back to Saturday because of inclement weather, tournament officials announced Thursday.

All first-round games will be played Saturday starting at 10 a.m. The semifinal, third-place and championsh­ip games will be played Monday.

The Class 3A Region 2 baseball and softball tournament­s at Walnut Ridge were still set to start today as of Thursday afternoon, although tournament director Jacob Kersey said different scenarios are under considerat­ion depending on field conditions this morning.

The Class 2A North Region baseball and softball tournament­s at Carlisle are scheduled to start today, as are the Class 2A Central Region tournament­s at South Side Bee Branch.

The Class 1A Region 2 baseball and softball tournament­s at Marked Tree were postponed Thursday afternoon. Norfork led Marked

Tree 4-1 in the fifth inning of their baseball game, while Mammoth Spring led Shirley 5-2 in the fourth inning of their softball game when play was halted. The tournament is set to resume today.

Two games were completed in both 1A-2 brackets. West Side Greers Ferry defeated Mammoth Spring 18-2 in baseball and ousted Marked Tree 3-1 in softball.

Forrest City teams failed to qualify for either the Class 4AEast baseball or softball regionals which will be played at Brookland.

Pulaski Robinson wears the top seed from the 4A-5 conference into today's first round regional game against Pocahontas, the No. 3 seed from the 4A-3 conference in a 3 p.m. start time.

The winner returns on Saturday to face the Brookland/Pulaski Academy winner.
