Despite afternoon heat EACC tourney rolls on

- Fred Conley

From year to year, some things never change and again on Monday, that was the scenario for the 11th annual EACC Four-Person Golf Scramble played at the Forrest City Country Club as 15 teams endured scorching afternoon temps well into the 90s highlighted by triple digit heat indexes as the tournament inched closer to the finish line.

Nothing new. The tournament, since its first year in 2011, has always been played in early June, which almost always produces a lot of heat and at times repeat winners.

Again, no different on Monday.

Matt Howton, Cody Flowers teamed with the father-son team of Bill Carter and Jack Carter and withstood Monday's high temps to win the 11th annual tournament with a 16 under par 55.

Monday's win marked the fourth time that Howton, a former Forrest City Mustang golfer, has been on the tournament's winning team

Howton was part of last year's winning team, along with Flowers, Aaron Owens and Brian Wilson. Howton was also part of the 2013 winning team which included Randy Pearson, Bill Carter and Derrick Boileau and the 2012 winning team that included Andy Williams, Paul Young and Phil Byers.

The team of Benny Parker, Tyler Hammer, Chris Gabe and Aaron Curtis finished second Monday, finishing at 15 under 56, while brothers Derrick and Eric Boileau teamed with two former Forrest City coaches, Rich Trail and Allen Perry, to finish third with a 12 under 59 for the day.

Another group of former Mustang golfers, Joey Bonds, Baker Aldridge and Tate Roberts teamed with Greg Bonds to finish fifth overall with a nine under par 62.

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the EACC Foundation.
