Teen driver injured in Beech Grove shooting

-

A teenager suffered minor injuries Monday afternoon when the vehicle he and his mother were in was struck by gunfire in the Beech Grove neighborhood.

This is the second incident this month in which the pair has been victims of gunfire in that area, according to police reports.

About 3:30 p.m., officers were notified of the shooting.

Officers spoke with Jennifer Daniels, 36, 716 Laughrun Drive, who told them she was riding in the back seat of a black Ford Mustang that her 15-year-old son was driving on Cardinal Drive when the shooting occurred. Bullets struck the vehicle’s windshield and passenger side, police reported.

Daniels told police her son was grazed under his left arm by bullet fragments. Officers also noticed injuries to the teenager’s nose and lip caused by glass from the windshield. EMS was reportedly called to the scene to check on the teenager.

Officers recovered two slugs from inside the Mustang along with four .380 shell casings.

Daniels identified the shooter and reportedly signed an affidavit Monday afternoon.

Monday’s report is the second filed by Daniels this month regarding her vehicles being damaged by gunfire.

On July 3, Daniels told police she and her son were driving toward their Laughrun Drive home when their Chevrolet Silverado was struck by gunfire near the intersection of Traylor and Roosevelt streets.

Daniels told officers that when they turned onto Traylor Street a subject ran into the street and started shooting at their truck, firing about five shots and striking the rear tire on the driver’s side.

Monday’s incident comes on the heels of shootings on Sunday in Beech Grove that left four vehicles and several homes damaged. Over 40 shells casings were collected by police as evidence. The bullets were fired from a semi-automatic, as well as 9mm and .40 caliber weapons, police reported.
