Stanley E. Reeves, 86, of Gulfport, Miss., passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022.

He was born March 21, 1936, in Salem, the son of General Jackson “GJ” and Georgia (Johnston) Reeves

He served in the United States Army for 20 years, including the Vietnam War. He was stationed in various places, including Europe and Japan. After his retirement, he resided in Chapman, Kan., from 1976 to 1984; in Memphis, from 1984 to 2005 and in Heber Springs from 2005 to 2019. His final destinatio­n was the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Miss., from 2019 to 2022.

He married the mother of his children, Linda Bridges, in 1959.

Stanley was a wonderful father and grandfathe­r. His family and friends were very important in his life. Every year he had a huge garden and would share with his neighbors. His hobby was making stained glass which he gave as gifts to family and friends. He was a hard worker, he was generous, he was loyal, he loved God and he loved our country.

Survivors include his children, Marvin Reeves of Denver, Colo., Melinda (Ron) Riling of Scottsboro, Ala., and Debra (Scott) Ussery of Phoenix, Ariz.; his brother, Russel (Lynn) Reeves of

Haubstadt, Ind.; his grandchild­ren, Jamie (Jason) Stroda, Justin (Laura) Koland, Wesley (Kelsey) Reeves, Chantel (Gina) Anderson-Puzo, Nicolette Reeves, Jade (Zack) Parker and Jaclyn Lezek; six great-grandchild­ren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-inlaw, Mary Reeves; his sisters, Cathleen (Bernard) Gunter and Joyce (Paul) Brimhall, and his brother, Vurlon Reeves.

A celebratio­n of life will be held at the Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest City at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Honoring Stanley’s request, burial will be at the Salem Cemetery.
