Gary Gore (1960-2022)

-

Gary Gore, age 62, passed away on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Gary lost his battle to a cancer known as the “beast” of all cancers, a cancer hard to tame, known as a Glioblastoma.

Gary was born on Aug. 9, 1960, the son of Donald and Shirley Gore. It did not take his dad long to know Gary liked the outside and the dirt. He spent lots of his young life after school and in the summer learning from his dad to love the land, farming and green equipment.

Gary leaves behind his high school sweetheart of 42 years, Melissa. After nine years of marriage, the best part of their life was when Gary's dream came true of having a little boy, Adam. Gary took great pride in him, teaching him to love the land, dirt and green tractors. He loved his daughter in-law Lynlee from the moment Adam brought her to meet them. Gary leaves behind a very special niece, Presley Reeves, who melted his heart each time she would say “I love you G.” He leaves behind a brother, Glenn (Martha), and three nephews, Garrett, Graham and Gabe, all of Palestine. He leaves behind a sister, Gale Lawson of Forrest City. Gary leaves behind a very important part of his life, something he looked so forward to, his unborn grandson, Garison Brooks Gore who will arrive in November.

Gary was preceded in death by his mom, Shirley Gore. At a young age his mom taught him how to love, how to treat people and that loving the Lord was the most important part of his success in life.

Gary was a part of the Class of 1978 and remained very close to some of his classmates. Gary was partners in Triple “G” Excavating and Triple “G” Farms where he was the president of the company. Gary's day-to-day duties took him from one town to another. In his travels he always knew where to get the best ice cream cone. Gary rarely got in a hurry, if he was going to look at a job, pick up a part, pick up a check or deliver payroll, he always had time to make an ice cream cone stop.

Gary served on the Palestine City Council, where he supported the town’s many projects. Gary loved the town he lived in for 62 years. Gary loved his service dog “Girl” who made many ice cream stops with him. Melissa would always tease him that Girl could recognize the McDonald’s sign where he would buy her chicken nuggets. Gary loved his employees. He always wanted them to feel appreciated and had an open door policy for their concerns. Over the past four months, Gary would talk about each of his employees and say, “I miss my guys.” Melissa would tell him there is not a time she is at the shop that they don't ask about their “Boss.” Gary loved spending time at the lake. Making Friends for Gary came easy, because he loved folks as he wanted to be loved, and he treated folks like he wanted to be treated.

Gary was a strong supporter of St. Jude. His wishes were for memorials be made to the St. Jude hospital. 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or Pilots for Patients (they fly patients for cancer treatments), 3127 Mercedes Drive, Monroe, LA 71201.

The family extends a very special thanks to Legacy Hospice and Woodruff County Health and Rehab.
