Police investigating three shooting incidents during weekend

-

Three people suffered nonlife-threatening injuries in separate shootings Sunday in Forrest City.

The Forrest City Police Department reports officers were called to the emergency room at Forrest City Medical Center yesterday on three separate occasions.

The first shooting was reported about 3:42 a.m., when police were called to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Washington and Hill streets.

Upon arrival, officers found a 2010 Honda Accord had struck a pole at the intersection. While investigating the crash, officers received a call from FCMC officials telling them

Briuna Nicole Smith, 23, of Forrest City, was there seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the thumb on her left hand.

Smith reportedly told officers she was sitting in the back seat of a 2013 Buick driven by a male subject when they encountered the Honda at the downtown intersection. According to Smith, an occupant from inside the Honda began shooting, striking her in the left hand.

According to the report, after Smith was taken to the hospital, the male subject she was with, along with others, reportedly confronted the subjects in the Honda at which time a fight ensued. Officers reportedly used chemical spray on the group of males and detained the individuals, although the report does not show any charges were filed against them.

About 11:20 a.m., emergency room officials called officers to the hospital regarding Mylon Bernard Hutchieson, 23, of Forrest City, who was seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to his hand.

The officer noted the tip of Hutchieson’s left index finger had been removed.

Hutchieson told police the incident occurred while he was standing next to his truck outside his residence on Fernwood Drive. He told officers a fourdoor silver car drove by and he heard two gunshots before looking down and noticing his finger was bleeding.

Police reported Hutchieson could not provide a make or model of the vehicle, nor could he identify anyone inside it. Further investigation into the incident revealed Hutchieson told hospital officials the shooting had taken place on Water Street, although no evidence

Police also reviewed video surveillance in the Fernwood area and did not see any vehicles matching the description given by Hutchieson.

On Sunday afternoon, officers responded again to the hospital’s emergency room where they spoke with Danielle Stewart, 30, of Forrest City.

Stewart, who was shot in the left forearm, told police she was driving on Mississippi Street when a subject in another vehicle came up to her vehicle and began arguing with a passenger. She told officers the subject reached into her vehicle, trying to hit her, after which she heard a “loud bang.” She said she drove down the road and parked because she realized she was bleeding.

A passenger in the vehicle then drove Stewart to the hospital, police reported.

Witnesses told police the suspect grabbed the firearm from a front seat passenger. However, officers noted in the report that it appeared the gun was fired from inside the vehicle.

The investigation into the shootings is continuing.
