Election officials getting prepared for Nov. 8 vote
Absentee ballots already being mailed
Absentee ballots for the general election, which is set for Tuesday, Nov. 8, are already being mailed, according to county election officials.
St. Francis County Election Commission chair Patti Long said the commission still needs to post the list of workers and the results of the upcoming logic and accuracy testing both at the SFC courthouse and in the TimesHerald prior to the election. "We had to order absentee ballots, but we have gotten them in and started mailing them out," said Long. "We have to post our list of workers, and put that, along with our L&A testing into the paper, as well as post it at the courthouse.
“We are also waiting for one of our DS200 voting machines to be repaired,” Long continued. “We really don't have to have that repaired until the general election, but it will be up and running by then.”
Long said early voting in the election will begin on Monday, Oct. 24, at the courthouse, and continue through Monday, Nov. 7.
According to Long, the commission is currently waiting to receive data from Election Systems and Software to set a solid date for logic and accuracy testing to be held.
"We also have some deadlines coming up for things like L&A testing," said Long. "We are currently trying to set a date for that. We are waiting on data from Election Systems and Software to come back to us."
Long said that during a recent meeting, commissioners were able to certify that the ballots are correct and send in the documentation for the primary election reimbursement to the state.
"We spent time going through the ballots to make sure that our express vote ballots are correct," said Long. "As far as we can tell, to the best of our knowledge, they are correct. We also have sent in all of the required paperwork for the primary reimbursement. We haven't sent in everything for the reimbursement of the run-off election at this time."
The deadline to register to vote in the November election is Monday, Oct. 10.
