St. Jude fundraiser Saturday at VCSP

-

Village Creek State Park will be hosting a Saddle Up for St. Jude event on Saturday at the equestrian campground.

From 8 a.m. until noon, visitors can bring their own horses and participate in the ride for the children of St. Jude on the horse trails at the park.

Registration and trail rides begin at 8 a.m., according to VCSP Interpreter Catherine Combs, who added that riders who bring their own horses will be required to have Coggins paperwork.

"Each year we always are blessed to have our equestrians come out, but this isn't just for people with horses," said Combs. "Three Trees Cowboy Church will be providing fried pies that morning.”

Those without horses may participate in other events.

"This event will have a little something for everyone," said Combs.

From 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. there will be a free hot dog lunch for anyone who donates money or an auction item to the silent auction that will be held at 4 p.m.

"Anybody can participate in that or bring items for the auction," said Combs.

From noon until 2 p.m., children will be allowed to ride horses for $2.

"We will have several well-trained horses for children to ride. They take them around the campground," said Combs.

There will also be a barbecue plate dinner, costing $10, at 6:30 p.m., according to Combs. The plates will include barbecue, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans and a drink.

"Proceeds from the event will go to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis," she said. "It is important to note that for the barbecue and kids rides, people will need to bring cash."
