P-W girls earn No. 2 seed into district volleyball tourney

The Palestine-Wheatley Lady Patriots have played their way into the 2A-East district volleyball tournament which is scheduled to begin play on Monday.

The varsity Lady Patriots finished second in the conference and will wear the No. 2 seed into the district bracket. Midland will wear the No. 1 seed into district and receives a first-round bye. They will play the Cedar Ridge/Ridgefield winner Tuesday at 6 p.m.

P-W will face seventh seeded Marianna Lee Monday at 5:15 p.m. Barton, the No. 3 seed into the district opens district tournament play Monday against Kipp Delta.

The P-W seventh grade team and the P-W Junior Lady Patriots both tied for second in their conference strandings.

The Lady Patriots named four players to the all-conference team, a pair of all-state players and one all-star player.

Head coach Stefanie Watters has been nominated for the AllStar team.

Valley View celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday with a 25-20, 2513, 25-23 sweep of West Memphis in 5A-East conference high school volleyball.

The Lady Blazers are unbeaten at 12-0 in the conference.

Valley View won the senior JV match 25-11, 25-19 and the junior high match 25-4, 25-12.

••••• Maddie Smith compiled 16 kills and Evan Polsgrove added 13 as Brookland outlasted Southside 25-27, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18, 17-15 in high school volleyball Tuesday.

Brookland won the junior high match 25-7, 25-16.

••••• Wynne won the third and fourth sets to defeat Westside 2520, 23-25, 25-18, 25-14 in high school volleyball played Tuesday.

••••• Harrisburg defeated Cave City 25-14, 18-25, 25-9, 25-6 in 3ANortheas­t conference high school volleyball Tuesday.

Emerson Kerby was 23-of-23 serving with five aces, 18 assists and seven digs for the Lady Hornets (6-13, 6-10 conference).

Harrisburg (17-2, 16-0) celebrated a conference championsh­ip with a 25-20, 25-21 victory in the junior high match.

••••• Paragould defeated Nettleton 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 in 5A-East conference high school volleyball Tuesday.

Paragould also took the senior JV game 25-19 and the junior high match 25-23, 25-21.
