Four of five FCSD campuses score D on State Report Card

Junior high move up to D, Stewart campus falls to F

Four of the five campuses in the Forrest City School District scored a D on this year’s Public School Report Card, with the fifth campus scoring an F.

The Arkansas Department of Education’s Division of Elementary and Secondary Education recently released the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) index scores for school districts across the state.

In the FCSD, Central Elementary, Lincoln Academy, the junior high school and the high school scored a D. The Stewart Elementary Campus scored an F.

In 2018-19, which was the last year letter grades were assigned by the ADE due to the Covid pandemic, Central, Stewart, Lincoln Academy and the high school scored a D, with the junior high scoring an F.

Based on the state informatio­n, the overall ESSA score for the 467 students in pre-kindergart­en through second grade at Central was 60.51 for the 2021-22 school year compared to the state average of 67.33, resulting in the D.

In 2018-19, the district’s score was 62.86, compared to a state average of 71.3, which was also a D.

Although a letter grade was not assigned for the 2020-21 school year, the ADE reported ESSA scores for school districts. That year, Central’s ESSA score was 60.17, with the state average being 66.93.

The ADE did not report ESSA scores or give letter grades for the 2019-20 school year, due to Covid.

At Stewart Elementary, the ESSA score for the 464 students attending that campus in the 2021-22 school year was 55.05 compared to the state average of 67.33, resulting in an F.

In 2018-19, the Stewart ESSA score was 58.65, which was a D. The state average at that time was 71.3.

For the 2020-21 school year, Stewart’s ESSA score was 52.41, compared to the state average of 66.93.

Lincoln Academy’s accountabi­lity score for the past school year is 56.73, compared to the state average of 66.88, resulting in the D rating. The state report shows 152 sixth graders were enrolled last year at this campus.

Lincoln Academy also had a D rating in the 2018-19 school year when the school’s ESSA score was reported at 58.05, compared to the state average of 70.16.

For the 2020-21 school year, Lincoln Academy’s ESSA score was 49.74, compared to the state average of 65.87.

The Forrest City Junior High School, where seventh and eighth graders attend classes, received a D. The ESSA score for the past school year is 54.88% compared to the state average of 66.88. The report shows 292 students were enrolled last year at the junior high.

The junior high had an F rating for the 2018-19 school year, with an ESSA score of 52.83 compared to the state average of 70.16.

The ESSA score for junior high students for the 2020-21 school year was 51.31, compared to the state average of 65.87.

Forrest City High School, where 615 students were enrolled in ninth through 12th grades last year, received a D, with an ESSA score of 54.15. The state average is 64.01.

In the 2018-19 school year, the high school had a D, with an ESSA score of 55.55 compared to the state average of 66.48.

Students at the high school had an ESSA score of 50.86 for the 2020-21 school year, compared to the state average of 63.25.

Both campuses in the Palestine-Wheatley School District scored a C, based on the ADE report. Both campuses also scored a C for the 2018-19 school year.

The 2021-22 report shows the PW elementary campus, where 439 students were enrolled in prekinderg­arten through sixth grades, had an ESSA score of 66.62, resulting in the C. The state average was 67.33.

In 2018-19, the elementary campus had a 70.31 ESSA score, compared to the state average of 71.3.

For the 2020-21 school year, the elementary campus had an ESSA score of 70.96, which was just above the state average of 69.93.

At PW High School, where 340 students were enrolled last year, the ESSA score was 64.13 for the 2021-22 school year, compared to the state average of 64.01, resulting in a C for that campus.

In 2018-19, the high school campus had a rating of 66.27, which also was a C, compared to the state average of 66.48.

For the 2021-22 school year, the high school’s ESSA score was 63.82, just slightly above the state average of 63.25.

The two campuses in the Lee County School District continue to score an F.

At Anna Strong Learning Academy, where 320 students were enrolled last year, the ESSA score is 57.01 compared to the state average of 67.33.

In 2018-19, that campus had an ESSA score of 55.67, compared to the state average of 71.3.

During the 2020-21 school year, the Anna Strong campus’s score was 50.7, compared to the state average of 66.93.

Lee High School had 271 students enrolled in seventh through 12th grades for the 2021-22 school year. The ADE reports the score for that campus is 51.68, which resulted in an F, when compared with the state average of 64.01.

For the 2018-19 school year, the high school campus received an F, with an ESSA score of 48.17 compared to the state average of 66.48.

In the 2020-21 school year, the high school’s ESSA score was 49.89, with the state average being 63.25.
