Forrest City junior/varsity teams sweep doublehead­er from Lakeside

In a rare Saturday afternoon doublehead­er, the Forrest City Mustangs won both games over the visiting Lakeside Beavers played at Dwight Lofton Mustang Arena

The varsity matchup served as the final tuneup before the upcoming Rumble on the Ridge tournament, scheduled to begin play Thursday at the arena.

The Mustangs, coming off a 68-45 road victory over Lonoke Thursday, took control over Lakeside from the opening tip and rolled to a comfortabl­e 7048 win.

The Mustangs, after opening a 10-0 lead midway through the opening quarter, led 24-9 after the first quarter and went into the half holding a 39-18 cushion.

The second half was even more decisive for the Mustangs, pushing their lead to 32 points to end the third quarter with a 6228 lead. Lakeside closed the gap in the final quarter played under the 30 point "mercy rule" getting within 24 points with less than two minutes remaining in the game as the Mustangs finished with mostly reserves on the floor.

Forrest City senior Mykeon White led the Mustangs with 22 points, five rebounds and four steals, while sophomore Marcus Britt Jr. put up 18 points and had three steals.

Forrest City will open play Thursday in the Rumble on the Ridge when they take on Memphis Fairley at 6:30 p.m.

The Junior Mustangs, led by E.J. Morris' 15 points and Tadavion Wright's 12 points, rolled past the Junior Beavers 5016 in their junior high game Saturday.

Forrest City placed seven players in the scoring column.

The Junior Mustangs led 17-0 after the opening frame and 27-7 at the half, before finishing the game outscoring the Junior Beavers 23 to 9 in the second half.

From the foul line, the Junior Mustangs sank 16 of their 23 free throws while Lakeside was 3 for

17.
